BMTC organizes visit to BMTC command and control center for ASRTU delegates

BMTC organised a visit to BMTC command and control centre for ASRTU delegates on 21-03-2016. Mrs. Ekroop Caur MD, BMTC  welcomed all the delegates and demonstrated the world class facility created by Trimax. Delegates were given presentation by Shri. BSNL launches Wi-Fi hotspot at Vaishno Devi

Union Minister for Telecom and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad today dedicated 1000th WI-FI hotspot to the nation with the operationaliation of this facility at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine from Delhi. 

Speaking on the occasion, he said that as part of Government’s initiative to modernize BSNL so as to make it relevant in the competitive environment which telecom sector is facing today, the Public Sector undertaking has plans to invest Rs 2000 crore for the up gradation of its network which includes adding another 21000 BTS, a PIB handout said. He said the addition would include 13000 BTS which BSNL would use for its 3G services.

As part of its drive to tap new sources of revenue while meeting aspirations of the Government, it has introduced a plan to deploy public Wi-Fi hotspots across the country covering all religious, tourist and important locations in the country. 
In first phase of the plan it proposes to set up 2500 WIFI hotspots across the country.

UPSRTC’s profit zooms to Rs 23 crore Report card: UPSRTC clocks profit after 8 yrs

The Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has registered a net profit of Rs 23 crore with a month still to go this fiscal.Last year, UPSRTC was one of only three state road transport corporations which posted profit. While Odisha and Punjab were the two other states which made profits during 2014-15, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) registered the highest loss among the 46 entities, according to a draft report on their performance and financial health.
Confirming the numbers, UPSRTC managing director K Ravindra Nayak said, “The implementation of ITMS (Intelligent Transport Management System), establishment of a command centre, digitization and computerization of the monitoring system has helped us significantly .“ He added that over the next six months, almost 4,500 buses will be added to the existing fleet of 10,000.

The people of Uttar Pradesh travelled by state buses much more last year compared to the previous few years.
Three state transport undertakings (SRTUs) of Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Punjab have made profits during 2014-15, while Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) registered the highest loss among the 46 entities, according to a draft report on their performance and financial health.

While this trend seems worrying at a time when government is focusing on improving public transport and to provide connectivity to the last village across the country, it is actually an improvement from 2013-14 when only Pun Bus of Punjab had made any profit. Government sources said that Uttar Pradesh SRTC registered Rs 2.47 crore profit during 2014-15 in comparison to Rs 131.5 crore loss during the previous financial year. Odisha State Road Transport Corporation made the maximum profit of Rs 5.15 crore against Rs 18 lakh loss during 2013-14.

UPSRTC officials said that though a series of steps helped improve their performance, it’s nowhere close to the Rs 40.71 crore profit the corporation had made in 2007-08. “The implementation of ITMS (Intelligent Transport Management System), establishment of a command centre, digitization and computerization of the monitoring system has helped us significantly,“ said UPSRTC managing director K Ravindra Nayak. Officials also said that the timely revision of bus fares helped improve the financial health of the state transport undertaking.Nayak said another 4,500 buses will be added to their existing fleet of 10,000 buses over the next six months.

Former chief of Odisha SRTC, Binoy Behera, said, “From right-sizing of employees to bringing drastic changes in work culture, management of employees and better financial managements were key to the turnaround.“ said Behera.

BMTC has invited tenders for installation of devices in air-conditioned buses that will operate in IT corridors and the airport

After years of speculation, the Bangalore Metropolitan transport Corporation (BMTC) has finally embarked on making some visible changes on the ground by implementing the intelligent transport system (ITS). This will make BMTC the country’s first state-run road transport corporation to introduce intelligent transport.

Officials claim that ITS — installation of electronic ticketing machines (ETM), smart cards, GPS and other initiatives — will make travelling in city buses more reliable and convenient.

The initiatives were earlier limited to trial runs. But officials are now confident of implementing these in a full-fledged manner.

BMTC managing director Ekroop Caur said the project is being implemented under build, operate and transfer system.

"As part the project, GPS and electronic ticketing machines have already been installed in a majority of our buses. In April, we will start issuing smart cards for commuters. The advanced mobile application will help commuters track buses and get information on bus routes, fare, arrival and departure times," Caur said.

The BMTC has also set up control rooms for mapping and monitoring movement of buses installed with GPS, testing smart cards, working on adding advanced features to existing mobile apps, training conductors on operating ETMs and various other initiatives.

Electronic ticketing machines

The BMTC plans to issue 10,000 ETMs and cover all the operations. For years the BMTC has relied on paper tickets and passes. ETMs and smart cards will help the corporation in big way. Depot-level officials can track occupa-ncy rate in the bus, and fare collected. “Complaints that paper tickets are reissued by conductors will stop. Some conductors feel it will be diffuclt to handle ETMs. However, once they undergo training, they will get accustomed to the machine. ETMs are also very convenient for them because there is no need to carry bags or trip sheets. At the end of the trip, all they have to do is generate a slip and deposit the money at the depot,” an official said.

Smart cards

The BMTC is all set to launch open loop card as per the specifications fixed by the National Payment Corporation of India. The smart cards which will be issued by the corporation can be used for commuting in city buses. In addition to commuting, the card will function like debit and credit cards for passengers. To commute in city buses, a smartcard holder has to hand over the card to the bus conductor and tell him the destination. The conductor will tap the card on the ETM. The money gets deducted from the card depending on the distance. The passenger gets a ticket generated by the ETMs. In addition to daily travel, passengers can use the same for purchase of monthly passes from the corporation. Director (IT) of BMTC Bishwajit Mishra said the cards will be issued free of cost. “The card can be used for daily commuting as well as monthly passes. At present people have to stand in a queue to buy monthly passes but in future they can easily recharge the card online. Cardholders need not carry any cash with them to travel in BMTC buses,” Mishra said. In future these these smart cards might be converted to a common mobility card that will enable passengers to also travel in the Metro operated by BMRCL.

GPS installation

Installation of GPS will help control rooms map and monitor buses to achieve accuracy of operations. GPS will also help them track reckless and speeding drivers, deviation of buses from designated routes, and failure to stop at designated stops. GPS will also help BMTC see whether drivers are completing scheduled trips. Mishra said installation of GPS is pending in only around 200 buses of the nearly 6,400 buses in the fleet.

The awareness program on managed network services, concluded on 4th December 2015 successfully was hosted and organized by BSNL and Trimax IT Infrastructure and Services Ltd. Digital India: Facebook, BSNL come together to set up 100 WiFi hotspots in rural India

NEW DELHI: US social networking major Facebook has partnered state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to create 100 Wi-Fi hotspots in rural India to drive digital penetration in the country.

Facebook is investing Rs 5 crore per annum for buying bandwidth from BSNL in this joint initiative that also includes IT infrastructure services providers such as Quad Zen and Trimax for equipment and fibre deployment, BSNL chairman and managing director Anupam Shrivastava told ET.

"Facebook has chosen 100 villages to provide Wi-Fi hotspots on a revenue sharing model," Shrivastava said, adding it will spend Rs 5 lakh per site a year for buying bandwidth from BSNL for a period of three years. Facebook didn’t respond to ET’s emailed questionnaire till the time of going to press.

Nearly 25 villages have been covered under the pilot programme in southern and western India so far and the project is likely to be scaled up and extended from a current three-year partnership, by another two years.

"We are aiming to complete the Wi-Fi rollout by December 31 this year," Shrivastava said, adding that consumers can get free Internet connectivity for the first half an hour. The Wi-Fi network has a capacity to allow an average of 2,000 individuals to latch on at the same time ..
Qaud Zen will be responsible for equipment sourcing and sales and marketing initiatives for the south-west region while Trimax has been roped in for the northern region in an open process, the BSNL top executive said.

Shrivastava’s comments came at a time when Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has been visiting India, where he has highlighted the country’s importance in the company’s mission to connect the next billion to the Internet.

BSNL, on its part, is optimistic about its Wi-Fi initiatives and has rolled out 450 hotspots with a focus on pan-India tourist spots, and aims to set up a total of 2,500 Wi-Fi hotspots by the end of current fiscal year through March 2016. "We are focusing on Wi-Fi hotspots in line with the government strategy of Digital India," Shrivastava said

Trimax bags order for enterprise class messaging services on public cloud infrastructure

One of India’s largest (by revenue) municipal corporations has awarded a multi-year enterprise class messaging services contract to Trimax IT Infrastructure & Services Limited (Trimax).

As per this contract, Trimax will provide 5,000 mail boxes (extendable up to 20,000) to the municipal corporation on a pay-as-you-go pricing model. This service is powered by Microsoft exchange and will deliver the following benefits to the municipal corporation:

ODCCB to start CORE Banking from 1st July 2013

Osmanabad District Central Co-operative Bank will start operating on CORE banking from 1st of July 2013 in all its 102 branches. Now with core banking system in place all the account holder can do banking transaction from any of 102 branches, update passbook, renewal of fixed deposit and also deposit the EMI’s of loan availed at any branch. ODCCB has more than 5,81,000 active account holders.

Trimax has invested Rs. 32 crores towards implementation of core banking solutions for ODCCB.
